Board of Trustees Vacancy

4 June 2020

We are a charitable trust with a vision of healthy environments supported by thriving communities. We provide community education, collaborate and support environmental groups and projects, provide inspiration for living lighter, and advocate on behalf of the environment.

The Board of Trustees provides governance – working to understand the social, cultural, legal, environmental, political, and business contexts within which Go Eco operates to identify and evaluate the risks, trends, and opportunities for the organisation.

The role of the Board is to:

  • set the direction for Go Eco – perform strategic thinking and planning, promote a positive public image, set mission and vision, establish organisational values, approve operational and annual plans;
  • ensure responsibility for organisational resources; and
  • provide oversight of Go Eco – oversee financial management, minimise exposure to risk, measure progress on the strategic plan, monitor programmes and services, provide legal and moral oversight.

We strongly encourage expressions of interest from Māori, Pasifika, and young people.

We do not require previous governance experience but we do expect candidates have a sincere interest in our organisation’s mission and values.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have an interest in or passion for one of our project areas – kai, transport, sustainability, alternative economies, or conservation and biodiversity – or our overarching commitment to climate action. You can view all our projects here.

The time commitment is a two-hour board meeting once a month, as well as time to read the board pack in preparation for the meeting. There may be additional time commitments if you choose to sit on a subcommittee, and occasionally decisions made via email. Board meetings are currently held via Zoom on the third Thursday of the month. We also meet occasionally in person at Go Eco’s premise in Frankton, Hamilton.

How to apply

Please send an expression of interest and a CV to by 12pm Wednesday 17 June. If there is other information you would like or have any further queries, please get in touch. You can view our current board members and our history here.
