Description

Launching Conservation Week 2024 – to celebrate our native Frogs and raise funds for Coromandel Watchdog.

This t-shirt has been inspired by our smallest and quietest endemic pepeketua – the Archey’s Frog. These tiny, nocturnal creatures are among the world’s oldest surviving frog species, with their lineage dating back over 200 million years!  They are critically endangered, but still facing threats from mining interests – highlighting the importance of fighting for all creatures – Big and Small.

$10 from the sale of these t-shirts for the month of September will be donated to Coromandel Watchdog. They were founded in 1980 as an umbrella group for anti-mining groups in communities across the Hauraki Coromandel. They provide information and support with research, public education, policy advocacy, capacity building, political lobbying and direct and legal action, as needed by our communities.  https://watchdog.org.nz/

About the artist: Carrie Shores-Laithwaite is a conservationist by trade and an artist by nature. Originally hailing from the USA, she fell in love with New Zealand’s unique landscapes and wildlife, deciding to make Aotearoa her home after abandoning her career aspirations as an archaeologist. Through her art, she seeks to spotlight the beauty of New Zealand’s native species and raise awareness of the environmental challenges they face. You can follow her at @craftymorepork to find more of her work.

The T-shirts are screen printed by Studio 386 – our Frankton neighbour!
