Description

The Hōhepa Candle Workshop.

The Hōhepa Candle Workshop was founded in the early 1980s and situated at Hōhepa in Clive among a range of other hand-craft workshops, which provide meaningful work opportunities for people with intellectual disability at Hōhepa Hawkes Bay.

Our principles are based on a holistic view of the human being which were developed by Rudolf Steiner. Anthroposophy also has a holistic understanding of the life circle. Work should be meaningful and make sense. The Candle workshop was initially setup to produce candles for Hōhepa and the wider community. Now we are proudly turning about 1000kg of Beeswax yearly into hand crafted high quality candles.

The candles are made by a dedicated and hardworking team which creates all our candles with love, care and expertise. Some people have been participating in the Hōhepa Candle Workshop for about 30 years, others have started since we moved to Napier. We are producing a natural product out of 100% locally sourced Beeswax from Takapau Kintail Honey – who have supported us for many years. We developed an almost zero-waste work-process. All the wick off-cuts and wax leftovers are turned into our fire-lighters. Since 2019 we offer wax collection points for the public as an alternative of throwing wax in the rubbish. Sustainability is a core value at Hōhepa and we are proud to do our bit in promoting sustainability and environmental friendly living at work.
